Whitby and Chandler has been in business since 1923 and since that time we think like to think have we become specialists in our field, particularly with regard to Gaskets and Rubber Mouldings. If you do have a question we would be delighted to try and help as we always value speaking to our customers old and new!
Meanwhile, we have put together a list of "Frequently Asked Questions" below. If you have a specific requirement please get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org
Where are you based? We are based in Penistone,South Yorkshire, ten miles to the north of Sheffield.
What are your manufacturing capabilities? We manufacture Gaskets from a wide range of materials and thickness'. Gaskets are essentially flat in nature or 2 dimensional. We also have a purpose-built Rubber Moulding facility here at Penistone which can manufacture 3 dimensional shapes through Transfer, Injection and Compression moulding methods from the full range of Polymers and hardness'. This includes Natural Rubber, Silicone, Viton, Neoprene, Nitrile, EPDM, HNBR, Fluorosilicone and Fluorocarbon.
I don't have drawings - can you still make the parts I need? We are able to work to customer drawings or samples. We can utilise existing CAD files and are able, in most cases, to reverse engineer items from customer supplied samples.
What is the average turnaround for parts? This is very much dependant upon the type of parts required. Through the use of our knife bed plotter and massive raw material stocks we are able to offer Gaskets on a very short lead time, even the same day if required; we can also arrange transport to get urgently needed parts to site. Rubber Mouldings generally take longer to produce - this is related to the complexity of the items and how long it will take for the tooling to be manufactured.
Do you only cut your own-brand materials? Far from it - we stock and cut materials from all the major manufacturers such as Amorim, Flexitallic / Novus, Klinger and James Walker working to customer specification at all times. WE can offer a range of materials to BS 7531 Grade X and also Grade Y.
My Gasket looks OK - can I re-use it? We would not recommend re-using a gasket. Once the gasket is separated from the assmbly then it should be replaced.
Can you advise on the best material for my application? Yes - we have compatibility charts on our website for easy reference along with material information but we would suggest contacting us to discuss suitable materials for your specific application. What information do you need to make a recommendation? Ideally we need as much information as possible. The application, temperatures involved - highest, lowest and continuous, the media it will be sealing against, ambient conditions and specifically, in the case of gaskets, the flange condition.
Can you manufacture colour Rubber Mouldings? Yes, we are able to produce rubber mouldings in a variety of colours and do so for a number of customers. The colours include white, brown, grey, blue, red, green and yellow. There are a number of reasons behind the move away from the traditional black rubber. It could simply be aesthetic reasons, may be for identification purposes or to do with reduced electrical conductivity in an application.
Can you mould rubber to metal bonded items? Yes, we are happy to manufacture rubber mouldings with a metal insert. We can either source the metal ourselves or work with your free issue items.
